Errands4Me ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your personal information when you use the Errands4Me mobile application (the "App"). Please read this policy carefully. By using the App, you consent to the practices described herein.

- Full name, email address, phone number, and profile photo during registration
- Username and password (passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text)
- Delivery addresses and saved locations
- Payment information (processed through our payment partners — we do not store card numbers)
- Errand details including item descriptions, special instructions, and photos
- Support ticket messages, dispute descriptions, and feedback
- Account deletion survey responses
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Device information: model, operating system, unique device identifiers
- Location data: GPS coordinates for errand matching, routing, ETA estimation, and safety
- Usage data: screens viewed, features used, timestamps, and interaction patterns
- Network information: IP address, mobile carrier, connection type
- Push notification tokens for real-time errand and payment updates
- Crash logs and performance diagnostics
1.3 Information from Third Parties
- Authentication providers (Google, Apple) when you use social sign-in
- Payment processors for transaction verification and fraud prevention
- Map and geocoding services for address resolution
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and manage your account
- To match your errand requests with available Carriers
- To calculate pricing, including distance-based fees, surge pricing, and weather adjustments
- To process payments, refunds, and manage escrow transactions
- To provide real-time tracking, ETAs, and delivery status updates
- To communicate with you via push notifications, email, and SMS
- To resolve disputes, investigate fraud, and enforce our Terms of Service
- To improve our services, develop new features, and conduct analytics

3. Location Data
Location data is central to our service. We collect your device's GPS coordinates when the App is in use to:
- Match you with nearby Carriers
- Calculate accurate pricing and ETAs
- Provide live errand tracking
- Enable safety features like trip monitoring
You can control location permissions through your device settings. Disabling location services will limit core App functionality. We do not track your location when the App is not in active use.
4. Data Sharing & Disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We may share your data with:
- Carriers: Your name, pickup/delivery addresses, item details, and contact information necessary to complete your errand
- Payment processors: Transaction data required to process payments securely (Paystack, Hubtel)
- Cloud infrastructure providers: For hosting, storage, and data processing (encrypted at rest and in transit)
- Analytics services: Anonymized usage data to improve the platform
- Law enforcement: When required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our users
- Business transfers: In connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets
5. Data Retention
We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services. Specifically:
- Account data: Retained until you delete your account
- Errand history: Retained for 3 years for dispute resolution and accounting
- Payment records: Retained as required by financial regulations (minimum 7 years)
- Support tickets: Retained for 2 years after resolution
- Location data: Retained for 90 days, then anonymized
When you delete your account, we remove your personally identifiable information. Certain anonymized records (financial transactions, dispute resolutions) are retained for legal compliance.
6. Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data:
- Encryption in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest
- Secure password hashing (bcrypt)
- Access controls and authentication via Clerk
- Regular security audits and monitoring
- Secure payment processing through PCI-compliant partners
While we strive to protect your information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Your Rights & Choices
You have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Update or correct inaccurate information in your profile
- Deletion: Delete your account and associated personal data through the App
- Portability: Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Withdraw consent: Opt out of marketing communications at any time
- Restrict processing: Request that we limit how we use your data in certain circumstances

8. Notification Preferences
You can manage your notification preferences in the App under Settings → Privacy & Security. You may opt in or out of:
- Push notifications (errand updates, payment alerts, marketing)
- Email notifications (errand confirmations, receipts, promotional offers)
- SMS notifications (errand alerts, payment confirmations)
Transactional notifications related to active errands cannot be disabled for safety reasons.
10. Children's Privacy
The App is not intended for users under 18 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we discover that a child has provided us with personal information, we will promptly delete it.
11. International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed and stored on servers located outside your country of residence, including in jurisdictions that may have different data protection laws. We take appropriate safeguards to ensure your data is protected in accordance with this policy regardless of where it is processed.
12. Third-Party Services
The App integrates with third-party services including Clerk (authentication), Mapbox (mapping and navigation), Paystack and Hubtel (payments), and cloud hosting providers. Each of these services has its own privacy policy governing the data they collect. We encourage you to review their respective policies.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated through in-app notifications or email. Your continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. The "Last updated" date at the top indicates when this policy was last revised.
14. Data Breach Notification
In the event of a data breach that affects your personal information, we will notify you within 72 hours through email and/or in-app notification. We will describe the nature of the breach, the data affected, the measures we are taking, and the steps you can take to protect yourself.
15. Automated Decision-Making
We use automated systems for pricing calculations, surge pricing, carrier matching, and fraud detection. These systems use algorithms based on objective factors (distance, demand, weather, etc.). You may request human review of any automated decision that significantly affects you.
